Nagpur: Maharashtra Revenue Minister and Nagpur district guardian minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule has warned of strict action against individuals found cheating citizens in the name of land and plot development in Nagpur.
Bawankule issued the warning during a review meeting on law and security arrangements in Nagpur held at the Police Commissionerate on Monday. He also directed the police to take suo motu action in cases involving alleged attempts to mislead, threaten or forcibly take control of properties belonging to elderly residents.
“Several families in central Nagpur have children who are working in other cities or abroad. If anyone attempts to mislead or forcibly take control of the residential properties of elderly parents, they should immediately approach the nearest police station,” Bawankule said.
He instructed police officials to respond promptly to such complaints and take action against those found responsible.
Nagpur CCTV Network to Be Upgraded
Strengthening Nagpur's CCTV surveillance network was another major focus of the meeting.
Bawankule said the administration was working to strengthen security infrastructure across the city and that additional funds were being provided through the district annual plan.
The Nagpur Municipal Corporation's CCTV network will be upgraded, with necessary equipment being provided to create a more integrated surveillance system covering both Nagpur city and rural areas.
Bawankule also approved a proposal for a unified CCTV monitoring centre for Nagpur city and Nagpur rural police. Officials were directed to upgrade existing cameras and resolve technical issues affecting surveillance at various locations.
The meeting also discussed completing the Nagpur rural CCTV project before the upcoming legislative session. Officials considered whether the city's CCTV project should be technically managed by a single agency to ensure better coordination and efficiency.
Police Asked to Control Traffic Congestion During Roadwork
Traffic congestion and road construction were also discussed at the meeting.
Bawankule said police were receiving several complaints through social media regarding traffic problems caused by ongoing construction work.
He directed police officials to ensure smoother traffic movement at construction sites and take measures to reduce inconvenience to motorists and commuters.
AI-Based ‘Simba’ System to Strengthen Crime Detection
Nagpur Police Commissioner Vishwas Nangre Patil said the police department was adopting modern technology to improve crime detection and monitoring of offenders.
According to Patil, crime data is being updated through an AI-based ‘Simba’ system, while offender databases are being strengthened using CCTV footage, photographs, videos and audio recordings.
The police have also deployed a dedicated team to monitor social media around the clock using ‘Garud Drishti’ software, Patil said.
“The police administration is making every effort to ensure that citizens feel secure and that technology is effectively used to prevent and detect crime,” Patil said.

The meeting was attended by MLC Dr Rajiv Poddar, Police Commissioner Vishwas Nangre Patil, Joint Commissioner of Police Navinchandra Reddy, Additional Commissioners Rajendra Dabhade, Vinita Sahu and Vasant Pardeshi, and Nagpur Rural Superintendent of Police Harssh Poddar.
Several senior officers and Deputy Commissioners of Police, including S. Rushikesh Reddy, Annapurna Singh, Rashmita Rao, Nityanand Jha, Aditya Milakherkar, Rahul Maknikar, Sandeep Pakhale, Rahul Madne and Ramesh Dhumal, along with Additional Superintendent of Police Anil Maske, were also present.
