Nagpur: Marking World Water Day 2026, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) in collaboration with Green Vigil Foundation organized a citizen outreach campaign at Maharajbagh Garden, focusing on water conservation, sustainability, and gender equality.
The initiative was aligned with this year’s global theme, “Water & Gender – Where Water Flows, Equality Grows,” highlighting the critical link between equitable water access and inclusive development.
During the campaign, citizens were educated on the importance of responsible water usage and sustainable practices in daily life. Officials and volunteers emphasized that equitable distribution of water depends largely on how efficiently it is conserved and managed at the individual and community levels.
Practical measures such as avoiding water wastage, adopting rainwater harvesting, reusing water, and protecting local water bodies were promoted to ensure long-term water security. Participants were also made aware of the looming water scarcity in Nagpur during the upcoming summer, urging them to reduce their water footprint and adopt eco-friendly habits.
World Water Day, observed annually on March 22, was established in 1993 following recommendations from the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development. The day underscores the importance of freshwater and supports the global goal of achieving Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6: Clean Water and Sanitation for All by 2030.
The event saw enthusiastic participation from citizens and volunteers of Green Vigil Foundation, including Kaustav Chatterjee, Surbhi Jaiswal, Mehul Kosurkar, Sheetal Choudhary, Bishnudeo Yadav, Shriya Jogey, Pinaki Banik, Parth Jumde, Pratik Isampalliwar, Chandraprakash Samala, Kshitij Kushwaha, and others.
The campaign successfully reinforced the need for community-driven action and sustainable water management practices, encouraging citizens to play an active role in securing Nagpur’s water future.
