Nagpur: A courier businessman from Bhavnagar, Gujarat, fell victim to an elaborate marriage fraud in Nagpur, prompting Tehsil police to register a case against three individuals — a woman, her associate, and the woman's husband.
The complainant, Akash Parekh (35), had come to Nagpur after being introduced to a group that promised to arrange his marriage within five days. He arrived on March 6 and checked into a lodge near the ST stand.
Through this group, Parekh was introduced to a woman named Komal, who presented Namrata Dhakate as a prospective bride. Parekh agreed to the match, after which Namrata allegedly demanded ₹1.20 lakh for wedding arrangements. Parekh withdrew ₹70,000 and handed it over.
While Namrata initially agreed to a registered marriage, she later pushed for an Arya Samaj temple ceremony instead. Trusting her, Parekh also gifted jewellery worth ₹1.40 lakh. Shortly after, Namrata fled on a motorcycle with an accomplice, leaving Parekh defrauded.Police have registered a fraud case and suspect the accused may be part of a larger organized racket.
