Nagpur: A tragic hit-and-run incident claimed the life of a 75-year-old woman in the Wadi police jurisdiction on Sunday afternoon. The deceased has been identified as Shantabai Ganpat Andhe, a resident of Ajay Nagar, Ambazari.
According to police, the incident occurred between 1:00 pm and 1:30 pm near Rajat Apartments on the busy Nagpur-Amravati Road. The elderly woman was crossing the road to reach a nearby sugarcane juice stall when a speeding grey Bolero car struck her.
The driver, who was reportedly driving recklessly and negligently, fled the scene after the collision, leaving the victim seriously injured.
Shantabai was rushed to Sengupta Hospital for treatment, where doctors later declared her dead.
Based on a complaint filed by her daughter, Usha Vinod Chaudhary (45), Wadi Police have registered a case against the unidentified Bolero driver under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Motor Vehicles Act.
Police have launched a search to trace the absconding accused, and further investigation is underway.
