Nagpur: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), in collaboration with Kerala-based Keltron and the city’s traffic police, has identified 10 key traffic squares for the pilot phase of the ambitious Rs 197 crore Intelligent and Integrated Traffic Management System (IITMS).
The pilot project is slated for completion by the end of April, paving the way for a citywide rollout aimed at modernizing traffic control and reducing congestion.
The selected locations for the pilot include Kachipura, Bajaj Nagar, Laxmi Nagar, Shankar Nagar, and Alankar Talkies, among others. The sites were finalized based on a survey conducted under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Archit Chandak.
The project will introduce AI-powered adaptive traffic signals, replacing traditional timers with real-time, vehicle flow-based adjustments. This system is expected to reduce travel times by 28% to 48% and increase average speeds by 46% to 62%, significantly improving traffic management in Nagpur.
