Nagpur: Beltarodi Police have apprehended a notorious criminal, Rohit alias Pandit Tiwari, for allegedly threatening and assaulting a wine shop employee while extorting money and creating panic in the locality. The arrest was made shortly after a case was registered based on the victim’s complaint.
According to the FIR, the complainant, Vikas Diliprao Borkar (35), a counterman at Nandi Wine Shop near Reliance Press in Manish Nagar, was on duty as usual on May 2, when around 6:00 pm, two men—Rohit Tiwari and his accomplice Ankit Wankhede—arrived at the counter. They picked up two bottles of Kingfisher beer priced at ₹190 each and three bottles of Budweiser Mild beer priced at ₹250 each.
When Borkar asked them to pay ₹1,130 for the liquor, one of the accused brandished a knife and instead handed over only ₹890. Rohit allegedly said, “Don’t you know who I am? My name is Rohit Pandit, and this is my friend Ankit Wankhede. We have a reputation in this area,” and refused to pay the remaining amount.
Later that evening, around 7:19 pm, the duo returned and got into a scuffle with a customer. They again took beer bottles from the counter without paying and assaulted Borkar when he demanded payment. Rohit reportedly slapped him and threatened, “Never ask me for money again. If you file a police complaint, I’ll kill you.” They also caused damage to items on the counter and used abusive language.
Fearing for his life, Borkar stayed away from work for two days, prompting the wine shop owner to accompany him to Beltarodi Police Station to file a formal complaint.
Considering Rohit’s criminal background and intent to create fear in the locality, Beltarodi Police registered a case under Sections 308(2), 308(5), 296, 351(3), 115(2), and 3(5)(B) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). A special team was formed to trace the accused, who was swiftly taken into custody.
The operation was executed under the guidance of DCP Zone 4, Rashmita Rao, and ACP Ajni Division. Senior PI Mukund Kawade led the investigation with API Ram Kandure, PSI Ghodke, PSI Giri, PSI Malokar, and technical support from Cyber Cell officers Himanshu and Krunal.
Police have appealed to the public to report any similar incidents and assured strict action against habitual offenders.
