Nagpur: In a significant operation, Bajaj Nagar Police traced and seized a 0.22 bore pistol that had not been renewed since 2006. The weapon was licensed under number 3819/III/NGP/1996 to M.P. Tankasale, a resident of Plot No. 14, Bajaj Nagar. Upon investigation, police found that the license had lapsed on March 31, 2006, and there had been no renewal for over two decades.

Bajaj Nagar police officers visited the address but did not find the license holder. Instead, an office was operating at the premises. Using technical surveillance and intelligence, police discovered that Tankasale had served as Additional Commissioner (Revenue) in Nagpur from 1993 to 1996 and had passed away on January 29, 2006.

Upon contacting his daughter, currently residing in the USA, the police searched the old family residence in her presence. A 0.22 bore pistol matching the license details was found inside an old cupboard. The firearm was seized and submitted to the Bajaj Nagar Police Station records.

The operation was carried out under the guidance of DCP (HQ) Ashwini Patil, DCP (Zone 1) Lohit Matani, ACP (Sonegaon Division) Ashok Shelke, and PI Surendra Aherkar, with PSI Vikas Mende, Police Constable Raymond James, and Police Sepoy Prashant Mende involved in the search.
