Nagpur: In a shocking incident, a 35-year-old woman died at Mayo Hospital after being brutally assaulted with an iron rod by her boyfriend over suspicions of an affair. The incident took place in the Gittikhadan area of Nagpur on Tuesday, May 6. The accused has been arrested following a swift probe by the police.

The victim, Hemlata Kishor Vaidya, worked as a receptionist at a housing project named Peace Residency in Gittikhadan. She was attacked by Akshay Prakash Date (25), a resident of Sawli Wagh in Hinganghat, Wardha district. The housing project is owned by builder Abhishek Thakurdas Kevalramani (45), a resident of Govind Apartment, Kadbi Chowk.

According to the police complaint, the accused had previously pressurised the builder to terminate Vaidya’s employment. However, when the builder refused, Date arrived at the project site on May 6, between 6:10 pm and 6:20 pm, and struck Vaidya on the head with an iron rod, causing critical injuries. She was rushed to Mayo Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries around 2 pm on May 8.

Gittikhadan Police registered a case under Sections 109 and 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Under the supervision of Police Inspector Kailash Deshmane, the accused was tracked down and taken into custody. Further investigation is underway.
