Nagpur: Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has introduced the Abhay Scheme 2024 for over 94,284 domestic, commercial, and industrial consumers in Nagpur district whose electricity connections were permanently disconnected due to outstanding bills. Under this scheme, MSEDCL will waive off a total of ₹61.62 crore in interest and late payment charges on these outstanding electricity bills.

The scheme, initiated on September 1, 2024, following the directive of Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister Devendra Fadnavis, aims to provide relief to consumers by preventing further legal action. Dilip Dodke, Chief Engineer of MSEDCL’s Nagpur Circle, has urged consumers in the Nagpur region, whose power supply was permanently disconnected due to overdue bills, to take advantage of this opportunity.

According to a Supreme Court ruling, property owners, buyers, or occupants are legally obligated to pay any outstanding electricity bills. However, instead of pursuing immediate legal action, MSEDCL has introduced this concessionary scheme to offer consumers a chance to settle their dues and avoid further penalties.

The scheme is applicable to all domestic, commercial, and industrial consumers across the state whose power supply was permanently disconnected by March 31, 2024, due to unpaid bills. However, agricultural consumers are not included in this scheme. The scheme will run from September 1 to November 30, 2024.

MSEDCL is owed ₹187.52 crore in principal dues, ₹2.37 crore in interest, and ₹59.25 crore in late payment charges from these 94,284 consumers in Nagpur district. To provide relief to these consumers, MSEDCL will waive ₹61.62 crore in interest and late payment charges on the outstanding bills.

Consumers will be required to pay 30% of the principal bill amount upfront, with the remaining 70% to be paid in six installments. Domestic, commercial, and other low-tension consumers who pay their overdue bills in a lump sum will receive a 10% discount, while high-tension industrial and commercial consumers will receive a 5% discount.

How to Avail the Scheme:

Consumers can avail the benefits of this Amnesty Scheme online by visiting the website www.mahadiscom.in/wss/wss or through MSEDCL’s mobile app. For further information, consumers can call the toll-free numbers 1912, 18002333435, or 18002123435. Once the payments are made under the scheme, consumers will be eligible to restore their regular electricity connection. Alternatively, they can apply for a new connection at the same address by submitting appropriate documents.
