Nagpur: Jaripatka Police have arrested two accused on charges of abetment to suicide of a sanitation worker employed with Nagpur Municipal Corporation.
The deceased, Raju Dudhhiram Upadhye (58), resident of Jagrut Nagar, was injured at work on August 3 when a manhole cover fell on his leg. He was treated at ESIC Hospital, Pachpaoli. Later, when his son submitted a leave application on his behalf, accused Yogesh Ramesh Hatipchel (42), resident of Vinayak Nagar, and Guddu Vitthoba Raut (50), resident of Suyog Nagar, allegedly rejected the application and continuously harassed him by assigning extra work.
Unable to bear the harassment, Upadhye hanged himself at his residence on August 6 around 12.30 pm. In his suicide note, he named both accused for mentally harassing him at the workplace.
Initially, a case of accidental death was registered. After inquiry and the complaint lodged by his son Saurabh Upadhye (28), police booked both accused under Section 108 and Section 3(5) of BNS. Both have been arrested. Investigation continues.
