Nagpur: A 44-year-old man was killed in a hit-and-run accident at Vaibhav Nagar, Dabha Road, under Gittikhadan Police Station limits. The incident occurred on July 18 around 8.30 pm.

The deceased has been identified as Surendra Tolaram Gautam, a resident of Navegaon, Balaghat district, currently staying at Bhakre Layout, Dabha, Nagpur. Police said Gautam was returning home on his Bajaj Pulsar motorcycle (MH 31 FJ 9771) when a speeding white car, driven recklessly, rammed into him and fled the spot.

Gautam sustained severe injuries in the crash. He was rushed to Lata Mangeshkar Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.

Initially, a marg (accidental death case) was registered. However, following a detailed inquiry and a complaint by his wife Sushma Gautam (32), police have now booked the unidentified driver under Sections 106(1) of BNS,along with Sections 134 and 177 of the Motor Vehicles Act.

Gittikhadan Police are investigating further to trace the absconding driver.
