Nagpur: The Social Security Branch (SSB) of the Nagpur Crime Branch has busted an alleged prostitution racket operating from a house in the Kalamna area and rescued a minor girl and an adult woman, police said.
A 36-year-old woman, identified as Laxmi Kishor Kurre, was arrested during the raid on Tuesday afternoon. Police suspect she was facilitating the alleged prostitution operation from a house in Bhagat Nagar.
According to police, the SSB received information that Kurre was allegedly forcing or facilitating girls and women into prostitution for monetary gains. Acting on the information, an SSB team led by Police Inspector Darshan Patil, accompanied by two independent witnesses and a decoy customer, conducted a raid at around 2.25 pm on August 18.
During the operation, police allegedly found Kurre facilitating prostitution involving a minor girl and an adult woman. Both were subsequently rescued, while Kurre was taken into custody.
The accused was booked at Kalamna police station under Sections 143(2) and 143(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 3, 4, 5 and 7 of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956.
Police are continuing their investigation to ascertain whether other individuals were involved in the alleged racket and to determine the full extent of the operation.
