Nagpur: The Crime Branch’s Unit 5 conducted a raid at a farmhouse in the Kalamna police station limits and arrested 16 people for allegedly gambling with playing cards for monetary stakes. Seven other suspects reportedly fled the spot during the police action.
The raid was conducted at the Two Sisters Farm House in Pawangaon area under Kalamna police station. According to police, the accused were allegedly found playing cards by placing money bets for personal financial gain.
Police seized ₹72,750 in cash, 17 mobile phones worth approximately ₹6.20 lakh, two four-wheelers valued at around ₹9 lakh and seven two-wheelers worth approximately ₹5.70 lakh from the spot. Five mobile phones, allegedly belonging to the suspects who fled, were also recovered and valued at around ₹3 lakh. Two mats used by the gamblers for sitting were also seized.
The total value of the seized property has been estimated at ₹24.63 lakh.
The arrested accused include Gaurav Gendalal Yadav (35), Roshan Anandrao Umredkar (38), Ganesh Gyanchand Nawesh (41), Kunal Khubchand Patil (32), Sangar Bhimrao Somkunwar (28), Sandeep Bhauraoji Nagarikar (28), Kailash Kisanrao Dongre (47), Harshal Mahadev Dekate (32), Dharmendra Rajesh Shahu (31), Nikesh Raju Shripate (33), Prakash Ravi Singh (28), Abhishek Anil Gore (22), Akash Ramu Gupta (31), Sheikh Rehman (45), Sachin Ramesh Dhale (48) and Tushar Chhotuji Lonare (39).
Police said some of the accused have previous criminal cases registered against them. Akash Gupta reportedly has 14 previous cases, while Tushar Lonare has 30 serious offences registered against him, according to police records cited in the report. Others also have previous cases.
The seven suspects who allegedly escaped have been identified as Harish alias Madi Parate, Harish Ramesh Kuhikar, Pranay Sanjayrao Jadhav, Kartik Rajesh Maiskar, Pawan Sudhakar Rewatkar, Rakesh Hiralal Meshram and Akash Ajay Khobragade.
A case has been registered under Sections 4 and 5 of the Maharashtra Gambling Act, and the seized property and arrested accused were handed over to Kalamna police for further action.
