Nagpur: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Central Railway’s Nagpur Division seized 63 bottles of foreign liquor worth ₹71,355 in two separate cases during a special drive against the transportation of narcotics and other prohibited items, with trained sniffer dog ‘Prince’ playing a key role in detecting the suspected consignments.
In the first case on August 18, 2026, Head Constable Neeraj, Constable Vipin Satpute of the Dog Squad and Constable Jasveer Singh of the Crime Intelligence Branch, Nagpur, inspected Train No. 20494 Chandigarh–Madurai Express.
During the inspection, Prince repeatedly indicated two trolley bags kept beneath Seat No. 27 in Coach B-1. As no passenger initially claimed the bags, they were offloaded at Sevagram and brought to Nagpur.
The bags were subsequently opened under CCTV surveillance and were found to contain 24 bottles of foreign liquor valued at ₹36,675.
Although a RailMadad complaint was later received claiming ownership of the bags, the bills produced by the claimant accounted for only 13 bottles. In view of the discrepancy, the recovered liquor was handed over to the Nagpur Excise Department for further action under the Maharashtra Prohibition Act.
In the second case, Prince detected a cloth bag beneath Seat No. 28 in Coach S-1. No passenger claimed ownership of the bag. It was brought to Nagpur and opened under CCTV surveillance, leading to the recovery of 39 bottles of foreign liquor worth ₹34,680.
The seized liquor in the second case was also handed over to the Excise Department for further legal action.
The RPF said the operation highlights the effectiveness of trained sniffer dogs in detecting prohibited items being transported through the railway network.
The Nagpur Division has appealed to passengers to immediately report suspicious activity or unattended baggage to RPF personnel or railway authorities to help ensure safe and secure train travel.
