Nagpur: An employee allegedly stole ₹5.5 lakh in cash and an accounts register from a handloom office in Dhantoli area of Nagpur, with the incident reportedly captured on CCTV.
According to the complaint filed by Narendra Baburao Patle, 49, a resident of Hingna Road area, the incident took place at a handloom office located at House No. 12, Plot No. 16, Pragati Colony, near Chhatrapati Square on Wardha Road.
The complainant reportedly operates a handloom business and puts up exhibitions at different locations to sell handloom clothes and other products. The accused, identified as Ankit Mangal, 38, from Uttar Pradesh, had been employed to work at these exhibitions.
According to the complaint, Mangal was responsible for collecting bills and handling other financial transactions during the exhibitions.
The complainant stated that on August 16, between 9 am and 9.30 am, ₹5.5 lakh in cash and an accounts register kept inside a bag in an iron cupboard at the handloom office went missing.
After checking the office’s CCTV footage, the complainant allegedly found the employee taking away the cash and register. Based on the complaint, Dhantoli police registered a case under Section 306 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
The police have begun an investigation into the alleged theft and are verifying the CCTV footage and other evidence.
