Nagpur: A 28-year-old woman was allegedly murdered by her lover at a hotel in Nagpur’s Manish Nagar area on Tuesday, following which the accused reportedly attempted to die by suicide. The incident took place at Hotel Stories, under the jurisdiction of Beltarodi police station, and came to light on Tuesday evening.
The deceased has been identified as Shivani Gajbhiye (28), while the accused is Kiran Atram (30). Both were reportedly employees of Central Railway and residents of Ajni Railway Quarters.
According to police sources, Atram is married and has two children. He was allegedly in a relationship with Shivani and wanted to marry her. However, when she reportedly resisted his proposal, an argument broke out between the two.
Police suspect that during the altercation, Atram allegedly attacked Shivani with a knife, resulting in her death.
Police sources further said that after the alleged killing, Atram reportedly carried out disturbing acts involving Shivani’s body before attempting to take his own life.
The two had reportedly checked into Room No. 302 at the hotel around noon on Tuesday. Hotel staff later noticed the incident and alerted the Beltarodi police.
A police team rushed to the spot and found Shivani dead, while Atram was seriously injured. He was immediately shifted to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Nagpur, popularly known as Medical, where he is currently undergoing treatment.
Police have sent Shivani’s body for post-mortem examination. The Beltarodi police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the alleged murder and the subsequent suicide attempt and are also verifying the sequence of events leading up to the incident.
The exact motive and circumstances of the alleged killing are yet to be established, and further details are awaited as the investigation progresses.
