Nagpur: A 32-year-old man was allegedly abducted, assaulted and robbed by a group of five to seven unidentified men following a dispute involving a former female friend and her family in Nagpur, police said.
According to the complaint, the victim, Suraj Ashok Singh, a resident of Friends Colony, had been acquainted with Aarti Bhanuprasad Pandey since 2021. Singh claimed that Pandey had borrowed money from him and that he later ended their relationship after repeatedly asking her to repay the amount.
The complainant further alleged that Pandey subsequently lodged a molestation case against him at Gittikhadan police station. After obtaining bail in that case, Singh went to Raipur, Madhya Pradesh, for work. He alleged that Pandey and two others subsequently threatened him over the phone.
In May, Singh reportedly returned to Nagpur on leave. After having dinner with a friend at a hotel in the Sitabuldi area, he was travelling home on his friend’s motorcycle when the alleged incident occurred near Liberty Chowk.
According to the complaint, five to seven unidentified men travelling in an autorickshaw stopped the motorcycle, forcibly took Singh into the vehicle and drove him towards the Mominpura area near Mayo Hospital.
One of the men allegedly put a phone call on speaker and threatened Singh before assaulting him with fists and blows. Singh alleged that Pandey and two other accused were also on the speakerphone and instructed the men to assault him.
The group allegedly took ₹3,000 in cash from Singh’s pocket before abandoning him near Nagpur railway station and fleeing.
Singh had earlier approached Sadar police, where a non-cognisable offence was registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. He later approached the Judicial Magistrate First Class Court No. 6, Nagpur, alleging that no effective inquiry or action had been taken.
Following his application, the court on August 11, 2026, directed police to register a case. Accordingly, a case has now been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita provisions mentioned in the complaint.
Police are investigating the allegations and efforts are underway to identify the unidentified suspects involved in the alleged abduction, assault and robbery.
The allegations are based on the complainant’s statement and are subject to police investigation and legal proceedings.
