Nagpur: A 14-year-old girl from Uttar Pradesh was rescued at Nagpur Railway Station after vigilant ticket-checking staff noticed suspicious circumstances and intervened, ensuring that she was handed over to authorities for her safety.
The incident occurred when Chief Ticket Inspector (CTI) Mamta Rao was performing ticket-checking duties near the escalator gate of the Foot Over Bridge (FOB) on Platform No. 1.
Rao reportedly noticed the minor girl and became suspicious about her circumstances. During verification, the girl was found to be 14 years old and a resident of Gonda district in Uttar Pradesh.
During questioning, the girl initially claimed that both her parents had died. However, her statement raised doubts among the ticket-checking staff, who conducted further inquiries and contacted family members to verify the information.
The subsequent verification established that the girl’s parents were alive.
Considering her age and the circumstances, Rao immediately contacted the Child Helpline. With assistance from Child Helpline representatives, the girl was handed over to the Government Railway Police (GRP) for her safety, further necessary action and eventual reunion with her family.
Railway officials said the incident highlights the vigilance and social responsibility of railway employees in protecting children and other vulnerable passengers.
The timely intervention by the ticket-checking staff helped prevent the minor from potentially being exposed to an unsafe or vulnerable situation at the railway station.
