Nagpur: As part of its ongoing commitment to ensuring a clean, hygienic, and pleasant travel experience for all, Maha Metro Nagpur appeals to all commuters to avoid the use of chewable tobacco-based products (such as gutka, pan masala, etc.) within metro premises and trains.
The consumption of such products often results in spitting and littering, which not only diminishes the cleanliness of metro facilities but also raises serious health and hygiene concerns for fellow passengers. To address this, Nagpur Metro has intensified its awareness campaigns and patrolling efforts to discourage such behavior.
In fact, till now, Maha Metro Nagpur has fined 225 commuters for violation and collected a fine of Rs.1.12 lakhs for breaching cleanliness and hygiene norms. Since these substances cannot be detected through metal detectors, random physical checks are conducted at stations.
Security guards have been sensitized and trained to identify violators, while the Central Surveillance System proactively monitors commuter behavior and promptly alerts on-ground teams in case of any violations. In addition to enforcement, Maha-Metro remains deeply committed to educating the public about the health hazards linked to the consumption of chewable tobacco.
These include increased risks of oral cancer, unhygienic conditions, and public inconvenience. Several such awareness campaigns were held to educate the commuters regarding the ill-effects of tobacco related products.
Maha-Metro Nagpur sincerely seeks the cooperation of all passengers in making metro travel not just fast and efficient, but also safe, clean, and healthy. Together, let’s build and maintain a metro system that reflects the values and aspirations of our city.
