Nagpur: A 65-year-old social worker and his friend were allegedly cheated of ₹6.59 lakh by a group of five people who promised to secure government jobs for their family members, police said.

The case was reported under Ganeshpeth police station jurisdiction. 

According to the complaint, the prime accused, Rahul Shriram Bahoriya (40), a resident of Lodhipura in the Ganeshpeth area, was known to the complainant, Kishor Shyam Sundar Sundre (65), a resident of Ganjipeth.

Police said Bahoriya allegedly gained Sundre’s confidence by promising to get government jobs for his daughter, daughter-in-law and other relatives. He allegedly introduced accused Shubham BhurghateAbhijit Krishnarao Deshmukh, Seema Khandelwal and Geet Awasthi as officials from the Education Department and claimed that they could arrange government employment.

The accused allegedly collected ₹5.13 lakh from Sundre on the pretext of filling forms and making payments to officials for securing jobs for five members of his family.

The accused also allegedly promised to secure a government job for the daughter of Sundre’s friend, Gulab Bais, and collected another ₹1.46 lakh from him.

The total amount allegedly collected from the two victims was ₹6,59,500.

However, neither the promised jobs were provided nor was the money returned despite repeated demands, according to the complaint.

Based on Sundre’s report, Ganeshpeth police registered a case under sections 318(2), 316(2) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
