Nagpur: Jaripatka Police have registered a case after an unidentified thief allegedly broke into two houses at CMPDI Colony and escaped with cash and jewellery worth a total of ₹6.66 lakh.

The incidents reportedly took place between 4 pm on August 22 and 6.40 am on August 27 at CMPDI Colony in Nagpur.

According to the complaint, resident Vikas Kumar Pashupati, 37, had locked his house in Building No. B-5 and left for Jharkhand with his family. During his absence, an unidentified accused allegedly broke the lock of the main door and entered the house.

The thief allegedly broke open two steel cupboards in the bedroom and stole ₹80,000 in cash along with gold and silver ornaments, with the stolen property valued at approximately ₹6.48 lakh.

The accused allegedly targeted another house in Building No. 4, where Vijay Kumar Mahto, 34, lived. After breaking the door lock, the thief reportedly stole a gold locket worth ₹18,000.

The combined value of the stolen property from the two houses is estimated at ₹6.66 lakh.

Following a complaint by Ramlal Rameshwar Ghasil, 38, Jaripatka Police registered a case against an unidentified accused under Sections 305(a), 331(3) and 331(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Police are searching for the accused and conducting further investigation.
