Nagpur: Sitabuldi Police raided Toquo Bar in Dharampeth during the early hours of Sunday after receiving a tip-off about loud music being played at Farzi Café. Upon investigation, officers found DJ equipment playing at high volume on the 8th floor of the same building and took swift action.
As per Police Sub-Inspector Nilesh Jayram Wagh of Sitabuldi Police Station, the city police control room received a complaint via wireless communication at around 12:35 AM on July 27, stating that loud DJ music from Farzi Café was disturbing residents in the Dharampeth area.
Acting on the information, PSI Wagh along with constables Suresh (5097), Pravin Peter (17137), and mobile driver Umesh (19296), proceeded to the location in the police mobile unit. While inspecting the premises, the team found DJ music blaring from Toquo Bar, located on the 8th floor of the building housing Farzi Café.
Upon inquiry, the bar manager identified himself as Rahul Mahadev Somkuwar (40), a resident of Shivaji Garden, Shivaji Nagar, Nagpur. When asked to produce official permission for hosting a DJ event, he failed to present any valid license or authorization.
Following the instructions of senior officers, police seized the following sound equipment from the spot:
• 1 DJ Sound Box, valued at ₹20,000
• 1 Mixer, valued at ₹90,000
Total equipment seized: ₹1.10 lakh
Police noted that the Toquo Bar was a repeat offender and had previously ignored sound restriction norms. By operating the DJ system without official clearance, he was found to be in violation of the prohibitory orders issued by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Nagpur.
A criminal case has been registered against Rahul Somkuwar under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) — Sections 293 and 223, along with Sections 33(1), 131, and 36 of the Maharashtra Police Act.
