Nagpur Rural Crime Drops Significantly in 2026: Murders Down 54.55%, Thefts Fall 29%

Nagpur: Nagpur Rural district has witnessed a significant decline in crime during the first five months of 2026, with major offences including murder, theft, kidnapping, molestation, and assault showing a sharp reduction compared to the same period in 2025.


According to official data released by the Nagpur Rural Police, the district recorded substantial improvements in law and order between January and May 2026, a development attributed to aggressive preventive policing and sustained action against habitual offenders.


The achievement comes under the leadership of Superintendent of Police (SP) Harssh A. Poddarand Additional Superintendent of Police Anil Mhaske, who have overseen a series of crime-control initiatives across the district.


Nagpur Rural Crime Statistics: January-May 2026 vs 2025


The comparative figures reveal a notable reduction in several major crime categories:


Murders Down by 54.55%


Nagpur Rural Police registered 10 murder cases between January and May 2026, compared to 22 cases during the corresponding period in 2025, marking a 54.55% decline.


Attempt to Murder Cases Decline


Cases of attempt to murder reduced from 23 in 2025 to 21 in 2026, reflecting an 8.7% decrease.


Assault Cases See Major Reduction


Assault and injury-related offences dropped from 458 cases in 2025 to 342 cases in 2026, registering a 25.33% decline.


Kidnapping Cases Fall


The district recorded 79 kidnapping cases during the first five months of 2026, down from 86 casesin the same period last year, a decline of 8.14%.


Molestation Cases Reduced by 20%


Molestation cases decreased from 95 cases in 2025 to 76 cases in 2026, representing a 20% reduction.


Theft Cases Drop by 29%


One of the most significant improvements was seen in theft cases, which fell from 613 cases in 2025 to 437 cases in 2026, a 29% decrease.


MCOCA, MPDA Actions and Combing Operations Yield Results


Police officials said the decline in crime is the result of stringent action under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA), the Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities Act (MPDA), externment proceedings against repeat offenders, regular combing operations, accused identification parades, and other preventive policing measures.


The department has intensified surveillance of known criminals and strengthened enforcement efforts to prevent serious offences across rural areas of Nagpur district.


Nagpur Rural Police to Continue Tough Crime-Control Measures


Officials stated that Nagpur Rural Police will continue implementing strict preventive and enforcement measures to maintain law and order and further reduce crime in the district.


The latest crime statistics highlight the effectiveness of proactive policing strategies, with Nagpur Rural emerging as an example of how targeted action against organized and repeat offenders can contribute to a safer environment for residents.
