Nagpur: A case of alleged extortion, criminal intimidation, and impersonation has come to light in Nagpur's Kalamna police station jurisdiction, where four individuals, including two persons identified as journalists, have been booked for allegedly threatening a supari (betel nut) trader and attempting to extort money from him.
According to police, the incident occurred at the warehouse of Trishakti Trading Company located in the Adivasi Layout area of Nagpur. The complaint was filed by Deepak Gurumukhdas Daryani (50), a resident of Sai Nagar, Netaji Nagar.
Accused Allegedly Posed as Police Officers
As per the complaint, on June 23 at around 2 p.m., four men allegedly entered Daryani's warehouse and introduced themselves as public servants and police officers. The accused reportedly began recording videos on their mobile phones and accused the trader of selling substandard supari.
They allegedly threatened to file complaints with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the police against the businessman, creating pressure and demanding money. When Daryani informed them that he would himself approach the police, the accused allegedly began abusing him.
Death Threat Allegedly Issued Outside Police Station
The complainant further alleged that after he reached Kalamna Police Station to lodge a complaint, the accused followed him there. Outside the police station premises, they allegedly threatened him with dire consequences and warned that they would shoot him if he pursued legal action against them.
Four Accused Named in FIR
Based on the complaint, Kalamna Police have registered a case against:
- Gaurav Hariprasad Pandey (31)
- Sachin Sureshsingh Bais (42)
- Narendra Lalluji Chaube (57)
- Jitendra Ashokkumar Kudwani (42)
Police sources said two of the accused are associated with the media profession. Authorities are also investigating whether the suspects were involved in similar incidents in the past and whether additional accused may be linked to the case.
Charges Registered Under BNS
The FIR has been registered under Sections 204, 329, 296, 351(3), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. Officials said further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the ongoing probe.
