Nagpur: In a significant move towards sustainable urban transportation and improved last-mile connectivity, Maha Metro employees have begun using public transport for their daily commute following the launch of a dedicated feeder bus service between Lokmanya Nagar Metro Station and Hingna Mount View Car Depot.
The feeder service, introduced by the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) at the request of Maha Metro, commenced operations on June 22, 2026. The initiative is aimed at encouraging public transport usage among employees while enhancing seamless connectivity between the Metro network and workplace destinations.
Dedicated Feeder Service for Metro Employees
The service was formally flagged off by senior officials including:
- Sudhakar Urade, General Manager (Operations & Maintenance), Maha Metro
- Mahesh Moroney, Joint General Manager (Multimodal Integration)
- S.G. Rao, Deputy General Manager (Commercial)
- Mahesh Dhamecha, Deputy General Manager
- Rajeev Ghatole, Manager (Operations), NMC
- Purushottam Nimsarkar, Senior Operations Manager, Chalo Mobility
Also present were B.V. Rao, Assistant Manager (HR), and employees from Maha Metro's Operations and Maintenance Department.
The initiative follows a meeting held at Hingna Depot on June 16, during which employees expressed their willingness to adopt public transportation for commuting to work.
Seamless First- and Last-Mile Connectivity
According to officials, the feeder bus schedules have been carefully synchronized with Metro train timings as well as employee office hours. The service operates between Lokmanya Nagar Metro Station and Hingna Mount View Car Depot, providing a reliable and convenient travel option for staff members.
Employees have welcomed the initiative, stating that it offers a predictable, comfortable, and hassle-free commuting experience while reducing reliance on private vehicles.
Several commuters noted that the dedicated service is expected to reduce travel stress, improve punctuality, and provide a cost-effective alternative to personal transport.
Maha Metro Leads by Example
Officials described the initiative as a practical demonstration of integrated urban mobility in action. By encouraging its own workforce to use public transport, Maha Metro is setting an example for government institutions, private organizations, and citizens across Nagpur.
Transport planners often emphasize that a Metro network's success depends heavily on effective first- and last-mile connectivity. The newly launched feeder service aims to bridge that gap by ensuring that commuters can travel smoothly between Metro stations and their final destinations.
Benefits for Nagpur's Urban Mobility Ecosystem
Experts believe such initiatives can contribute significantly to:
- Reduced traffic congestion
- Lower fuel consumption
- Decreased vehicular emissions
- Improved commuter convenience
- Increased public transport adoption
The project aligns with Nagpur's broader vision of developing an integrated, sustainable, and people-centric transportation ecosystem.
Officials from Maha Metro and NMC said commuter convenience remains at the heart of their mobility planning efforts. The feeder service for Hingna Depot employees is expected to serve as a model for future public transport connectivity projects across the city.
A Step Towards Sustainable Transport
With cities across India seeking solutions to growing traffic and environmental challenges, Nagpur's latest feeder bus initiative highlights the importance of integrating Metro rail services with efficient surface transport options.
By strengthening the crucial last-mile link, Maha Metro and NMC hope to encourage more residents to choose public transportation, ultimately contributing to a cleaner, greener, and more connected Nagpur.
