Nagpur Municipal Corporation Orders Demolition of Umesh Verma's Illegal ‘Moonlight Studio’ Setup in Dharampeth

Nagpur: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), Dharampeth Zone, has directed the demolition of 142.41 sq.m. of unauthorized construction at Plot No. 11, Vidarbha Premier Housing Society, Bhagwaghar Layout, near Children’s Traffic Park, Dharampeth.


During an official inspection on 27 June 2025, NMC officers discovered that the non-applicant, Umesh Vasudev Verma, had converted common open spaces meant for residential use into commercial premises. The inspection revealed that “Moonlight Studio” was operating illegally in the eastern common open area, while an office setup was constructed in the western common space.


Despite receiving a notice dated 2 July 2025 to submit legal permissions or building documents, the owner failed to provide any proof. Subsequently, NMC served a notice under Section 53(1) of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966 on 8 September 2025. Even after the notice period expired, the unauthorized construction remained intact.


Multiple hearings were scheduled; however, the non-applicant either remained absent or did not present required documents. After reviewing the situation, the


Assistant Commissioner ordered demolition of the following illegal constructions:

  • 61.15 sq.m. construction in the eastern common open space used by Moonlight Studio
  • 53.01 sq.m. construction in the western common open space used as an office
  • 27.09 sq.m. temporary tin shed
  • Total unauthorized construction: 142.41 sq.m.


NMC has instructed the property owner to remove the illegal construction within 15 days at his own cost. If he fails to comply, the municipal corporation will carry out the demolition and recover all expenses from him.


The action reflects the civic body’s strict enforcement of regulations, consistent with the Supreme Court’s 13 November 2024 order and NMC’s revised circular dated 22 September 2025.
