Nagpur: In a significant step towards strengthening public trust, the Zone 1 Police, led by DCP S Rushikesh Reddy, returned stolen property worth ₹1,29,93,095 to 141 citizens after completing all legal formalities. The distribution programme was conducted on February 23, 2026.
The recovered property included two-wheelers, gold and silver ornaments, mobile phones, cash, and other valuable items that had been reported stolen at various police stations under Zone 1. The items were handed back to the original owners and complainants from Hingna, Wadi, MIDC, Pratap Nagar, Bajaj Nagar, and Sonegaon police stations. According to official data, Hingna Police Station returned 10 items worth ₹1.10 lakh, while property worth ₹1.07 crore was restored in cases registered at Wadi Police Station. MIDC Police Station returned 39 items valued at ₹9.10 lakh, Pratap Nagar Police Station restored 15 items worth ₹7.25 lakh, Bajaj Nagar Police Station handed over 21 items worth ₹2.90 lakh, and Sonegaon Police Station returned 12 items valued at ₹1.85 lakh. The cumulative value of the restored property stood at ₹1.29 crore.
Addressing the gathering, DCP Reddy stated that winning and maintaining citizens’ trust is the foremost duty of the police force. He emphasised that property restitution drives not only provide relief to victims but also enhance transparency in the justice delivery process. The programme began with a message underscoring public trust and police responsibility. A large number of citizens and media representatives were present at the event and lauded the initiative, describing it as a positive step towards reinforcing police-public relations and ensuring accountability in law enforcement. Officials indicated that similar initiatives will continue to ensure timely recovery and return of stolen property in Nagpur city.
