Nagpur: Adding another milestone to its achievements, Maha Metro Nagpur has received global recognition after its Kamptee Road Double Decker Viaduct was officially declared the world’s longest double-decker metro viaduct by Guinness World Records.

The Guinness certificate was formally handed over by Swapnil Dangarikar of Guinness World Records to Maha Metro’s Managing Director Shravan Hardikar in the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis at the CM’s official residence Ramgiri in Nagpur. Senior officials including Anil Kokate, Rajeev Tyagi (Maha Metro), Rakesh Singh (NHAI Regional Officer), and Project Director C.M. Sinha were also present.

Spanning a total length of 5,626.44 meters, the Kamptee Road Double Decker Viaduct is India’s longest and the nation’s first four-tier transport structure, built on single-column piers. It features three levels — the highway flyover, metro line, and the existing Kamptee Road — and houses five metro stations: Gaddi Godam, Kadbi Chowk, Indora Chowk, Nari Road, and Automotive Chowk.

A major engineering highlight is a 1650-ton capacity structure near Gaddi Godam Gurudwara, constructed in a highly congested urban zone. The viaduct was inaugurated earlier by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on October 5, 2024.

This recognition is Maha Metro’s second Guinness World Record, the first being for the Wardha Road Double Decker Viaduct (3.14 km), certified in December 2022.

Key Benefits of Kamptee Road Viaduct:

  • Provides traffic relief and smoother travel on the busy corridor.
  • Saves time and fuel for daily commuters.
  • Avoided land acquisition costs and rehabilitation issues.
  • Constructed using rib-and-spine technology for strength and efficiency.
  • Reduced overall construction time and expenses.

With the Wardha Road and Kamptee Road structures combined, Maha Metro has built nearly 9 km of double-decker viaducts, setting new benchmarks in India’s urban transport infrastructure.
