Nagpur: In a significant move to bolster cyber awareness and address cyber-related issues among students, Dr. Ravindra Kumar Singal, the Nagpur City Police Commissioner, inaugurated the "Cyber Club" at Ramdev Baba College of Engineering, Gittikhadan. The event took place at 11:30 AM and marked the launch of a proactive initiative aimed at enhancing cyber safety in educational institutions across Nagpur.
The Cyber Club initiative, spearheaded by Dr. Singal, aims to:
- Establish Cyber Clubs in every school and college in Nagpur city.
- Form committees within these clubs consisting of faculty members and students, ensuring the inclusion of female students to create a safe platform for addressing issues faced by female victims.
- Create WhatsApp groups for each Cyber Club to facilitate communication and awareness among students.
- Encourage students to report any cybercrime incidents to club members, who will then connect the victims with police officers.
- Appoint cyber officers and personnel at each police station to handle cybercrime cases, acting as liaison officers for the Cyber Clubs in their respective jurisdictions.
- Ensure that any complaint received by the club is promptly registered on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal, with an online copy provided to the victim.
- Forward complaints to the Cyber Police Station for further action, depending on the nature of the complaint.
- Assist victims in filing online complaints within 30 minutes of contacting the Cyber Club, with police support.
- Conduct awareness programs within colleges to guide students on how to avoid cyber fraud.
- Help victims with online complaint registration.
- Provide guidance and raise awareness in colleges to prevent cyber fraud.
- Establish a structure for prompt and efficient cyber complaint handling to ensure swift resolution.
The event commenced with an introduction by Dr. Rashmi Velekar, a faculty member of the Cyber Club. Dr. Singal elaborated on the club's objectives and provided detailed guidance on preventing cyber crimes. Deputy Commissioner of Police, Nimit Goyal, discussed the methods employed by cybercriminals and preventive measures.
The highlight of the event was the formation of a 40-member Cyber Club at Ramdev Baba College of Engineering. Members were briefed on their roles and responsibilities. The program was conducted by students Vedant Naidu and Varadya Kulkarni, while Dr. Rakesh Kadu delivered the vote of thanks. The event witnessed the presence of officers from the Cyber Police Station, faculty members, and a large number of students.
