Nagpur: In a sweeping enforcement drive aimed at ensuring passenger safety and eliminating illegal commercial activity, Central Railway launched a year-long campaign across all its zones, with Nagpur Division reporting the highest number of violations — 4,365 unauthorized hawkers prosecuted between April 1, 2024, and March 31, 2025.

The extensive campaign, supervised by the Railway Protection Force (RPF), targeted unauthorized vendors and touts operating in railway stations and onboard trains. Across all divisions, 6,266 hawkers were booked under Section 144 of the Railway Act, while 7 touts were prosecuted under Section 143 for illegal ticketing activities.

Division-wise action report:

  • Nagpur Division: 4,365 hawkers booked
  • Mumbai Division: 128 hawkers, 6 touts prosecuted
  • Bhusaval Division: 1,151 hawkers
  • Solapur Division: 148 hawkers
  • Pune Division: 474 hawkers, 1 tout

Authorities confirmed that Nagpur remained a key focus area during the campaign, with increased vigilance by RPF and the Commercial Department leading to daily monitoring, surprise checks, and removal of unauthorized hawkers to maintain safety and order.

“This drive is crucial for securing railway environments and ensuring a hassle-free travel experience for passengers,” a senior Central Railway official stated. “We remain committed to eradicating such unauthorized activities through continuous monitoring and enforcement.”

Passengers have been urged not to engage with unauthorized agents or vendors, and to immediately report any suspicious activities to railway staff or the RPF.
