Nagpur: A 21-year-old student was allegedly assaulted with a beer bottle and had his mobile phone damaged after a minor confrontation with three youths on Ring Road in Nagpur’s Pratap Nagar area.

Based on the victim’s complaint, Pratap Nagar Police have registered a case under Sections 118(1), 352, 324(2) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for voluntarily causing hurt and assault, along with relevant provisions related to intentional insult and mischief causing damage. The investigation is underway.

The complainant, Vishesh Pramod Kamble (21), originally from Hinganghat in Wardha district, is currently residing in Jaitala, Nagpur, as a tenant while pursuing his education.

According to the FIR, the incident took place at around 9 pm on July 11 near Jog Hospitality Restaurant on Ring Road, close to Hingna T-Point in the Pratap Nagar area.

Police said Vishesh was riding pillion on a scooter with his friend Jai Dilip Dhotkar (21) while travelling from Jaitala towards Mangalmurti Chowk. During the journey, a red Ronnie motorcycle coming from the opposite direction suddenly stopped in front of them.

The motorcycle was allegedly being ridden by Dhananjay Bhise (23), a resident of Vaishali Nagar, Hingna Road, who was accompanied by two associates.

According to the complaint, the accused questioned the victim and began abusing him after noticing him staring in their direction. When Vishesh objected to the abusive language, the main accused allegedly struck him on the head with a glass beer bottle.

The other two accused allegedly joined the assault, physically attacked the victim, and smashed his Mi mobile phone on the road, causing damage estimated at ₹6,000.

The injured student was taken to Padole Hospital for treatment before approaching the police.

Pratap Nagar Police have identified the main accused and are investigating the involvement of his two associates. Further probe is underway.
