Nagpur: A 40-year-old labourer succumbed to his injuries late Sunday night after he was allegedly attacked with a spade during a dispute at a brick kiln in Nagpur’s Kalamna area. Following his death, police have converted the case from attempt to murder to murder.
The accused has been identified as Himanshu alias Guddu Gurudev Sonatakke (28), a labourer and resident of Indira Mata Nagar, Binaki Layout, under Yashodhara Nagar Police Station. He has been arrested.
The deceased, Sunil Kishori Satnami (40), worked as a labourer at Lal’s Brick Kiln and was known to the accused.
According to the complaint lodged by the victim’s wife, Seema Sunil Satnami (30), a native of Umaria Isara village in Chhindwara district, Madhya Pradesh, who currently lives in rented accommodation near Kach Company in Wanjra, Nagpur, the incident occurred between 11 am and 12 noon on July 12at Bablu Khan’s Brick Kiln near Mahulkar Brick Kiln in Parvati Nagar, under the jurisdiction of Kalamna Police Station.
Police said that the accused and the victim, who worked together at the brick kiln, got into an argument over an undisclosed issue. During the altercation, the accused allegedly picked up a spade and struck Sunil on the head with the intention of killing him before fleeing the spot.
The seriously injured labourer was rushed to Mayo Hospital, where he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Despite treatment, he succumbed to his injuries later that night.
Initially, Kalamna Police had registered a case under Section 109(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for attempt to murder. Following the victim’s death, the offence has been converted to murder, and the relevant murder provisions have been invoked.
