Nagpur: In a major house burglary, unidentified thieves broke into the flat of a 72-year-old retired man in Nagpur’s Beltarodi area and escaped with gold jewellery, cash and imported watches worth ₹27.62 lakh while the homeowner was away in Pune.
Based on the complaint, Beltarodi Police have registered Crime No. 312/2026 under Sections 305(A), 331(3) and 331(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) relating to house-breaking and theft. Investigation is underway to identify the accused.
The complainant, Shirish Govind Kokdekar (72), resides in Flat No. 604, B-Wing, Rachana Sahira Apartment, Chichbhavan, under the jurisdiction of Beltarodi Police Station.
According to the complaint, Kokdekar had locked his flat and travelled to Pune by the Vande Bharat Express to visit his son. On the morning of July 12, at around 7.10 am, his neighbour Ashish Nanotiinformed him over the phone that the main door of his flat was open and the lock had been broken.
Kokdekar immediately returned to Nagpur with his son and inspected the house. He found that burglars had allegedly broken the main door lock, entered the flat and stolen valuables kept in a bedroom cupboard.
The stolen property includes:
- Two gold bangles (50 grams) worth ₹6.64 lakh
- Gold mangalsutra (40 grams) worth ₹5.31 lakh
- Three-layer gold chain (20 grams) worth ₹2.65 lakh
- Seven pairs of gold earrings (23 grams) worth ₹3.05 lakh
- Gold chain (15 grams) worth ₹1.99 lakh
- Two gold rings (7 grams) worth ₹92,960
- One gold ring (8 grams) worth ₹1.06 lakh
- Gold bracelet (25 grams) worth ₹3.32 lakh
- Two gold ear ornaments (5 grams) worth ₹66,400
- One pearl necklace set worth ₹2,500
- Three gold coins weighing 8 grams worth ₹1.06 lakh
- One pendant with a green stone worth ₹3,000
- ₹7,500 in cash
- Eight imported American watches worth ₹80,000
In total, the burglars stole about 201 grams of gold jewellery, cash and other valuables valued at ₹27,62,280.
Police are examining CCTV footage from the residential complex and surrounding areas and are gathering forensic evidence from the scene to trace the culprits. The investigation is in progress.
