Nagpur: A dispute over poor service at a restaurant in Nagpur’s Ganeshpeth allegedly turned violent after the hotel owner and his staff assaulted four customers with iron rods, pipes and wooden sticks, leaving them injured.
Based on the complaint, Ganeshpeth Police have registered a case against Ambika Hotel owner Anuj Pandey and several unidentified waiters and associates under Sections 118(1), 115(2), 351(2), 352 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with relevant provisions for voluntarily causing hurt and criminal intimidation. Further investigation is underway.
The complainant, Shubham Pundlik Rananavare (29), a resident of Amar Jyoti Nagar, Jaripatka, who runs a tool machinery shop, told police that he had gone to Ambika Hotel at Jadhav Chowk, Ganeshpeth, along with his friends for dinner on the night of July 11.
According to the FIR, the group was unhappy with the hotel’s service and questioned one of the waiters. This allegedly angered the hotel owner.
While the customers were paying the bill, police personnel were reportedly announcing the closure of hotels and shops for the night. As some waiters attempted to shut the hotel’s entrance gate, the complainant objected, following which the argument escalated.
The FIR states that hotel owner Anuj Pandey, along with two to three associates and hotel staff, allegedly abused and threatened the customers before attacking them.
During the assault:
- Suraj Jageshwar Gajbhiye (38) was allegedly struck on the hand with a tandoor iron rod, causing injuries.
- Shubham Rananavare was allegedly beaten on his left shoulder and thigh with a wooden stick and an iron pipe.
- Their friends Ritvik and Saurabh were also allegedly assaulted with iron pipes, sustaining injuries to their heads and backs.
All four injured persons were admitted to Mayo Hospital, where they received medical treatment.
Ganeshpeth Police have launched an investigation into the incident and are identifying the other accused involved in the alleged assault.
