DRI seizes 1.312 kg of high-grade drug; two wildlife smugglers also held with leopard skin in separate operation

Nagpur: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Nagpur Regional Unit, arrested a woman passenger and seized 1.312 kg of high-grade amphetamine worth approximately ₹1.05 crore in the international illicit market during a search of the Hazrat Nizamuddin–KSR Bengaluru Rajdhani Express at Nagpur railway station.

According to DRI officials, the agency had received specific information about the transportation of a large consignment of narcotics on the train. Acting on the information, a DRI team, assisted by Railway Protection Force personnel, conducted a search after the Rajdhani Express arrived at Nagpur station.

The officials identified and detained a woman passenger in the suspected coach. During a search of her trolley bag, they allegedly discovered a concealed cardboard compartment hidden behind clothing. Two packets wrapped in blue carbon paper were recovered from the compartment.

A field-testing kit indicated that the substance was amphetamine. The seized 1.312 kg consignment was valued at around ₹1.05 crore in the international illicit market, the DRI said.

The woman was arrested under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and produced before the Holiday Court in Nagpur.

The DRI has launched an investigation to determine the source of the drug consignment and identify its intended recipient in southern India.

Two held with leopard skin in Gondia

In a separate operation, the DRI Nagpur team allegedly busted an illegal wildlife trafficking network near Purada village in Gondia district on September 29.

The team reportedly laid a trap and apprehended two alleged smugglers while recovering a complete leopard skin from their possession.

The leopard is listed under Schedule I of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, and receives the highest level of legal protection. The seized skin and the two accused were subsequently handed over to the Forest Range Officer of Uttar Deori Range in Gondia for further investigation and legal action.
