Nagpur: Bhandewadi police have arrested two alleged cricket bookies for reportedly accepting bets on the India-West Indies ODI match using another bookmaker’s betting ID at Suraj Nagar in Nagpur on Wednesday.
Acting on information about the betting operation, a police team raided Plot No. 77, Suraj Nagar, at around 3.22 pm on September 30 and caught the two suspects.
The accused have been identified as Bunty Sheru Ahmed Pathan (35), a resident of Suraj Nagar, and Vicky Anil Bansod (35), a resident of Amgaon (Adarsh), Pauni tehsil in Bhandara district.
According to police, the duo were allegedly accepting bets on the outcome of the ongoing India-West Indies one-day cricket match through another bookmaker’s ID.
During the action, police seized a tablet, mobile phones, including a Samsung Note 20 Ultra 5G and a Motorola handset, and ₹17,500 in cash. The total value of the seized items has been estimated at approximately ₹1.05 lakh.
The action was conducted under the supervision of Bhandewadi senior police inspector Nitin Charde. A case was registered at Bhandewadi police station based on a complaint lodged by police personnel Anil Kalindar.
Police are conducting further investigation to ascertain the extent of the alleged betting network and identify others who may be involved.
