Nagpur: A 31-year-old solar panel consultant from Khamla was allegedly duped of ₹10.68 lakh by a fraudster who posed as a representative of Waaree Energies Limited and offered him a fake franchise and distribution opportunity.
According to the complaint registered with police, the victim, Himanshu Vijay Vishwakarma, a resident of Tapovan Complex, Jaiprakash Nagar, Khamla-Somalwada, received a call from mobile number 8544166708 between July 28 and September 28.
The caller allegedly introduced himself as Alok Kumar from Waaree Energies and offered the complainant a franchise and distribution business opportunity in the company’s name.
The accused allegedly sent forged and fabricated documents to Vishwakarma through email, including a purported registration agreement and quotations for solar panels and inverters. Believing the documents and the franchise offer to be genuine, the complainant allegedly made payments totalling ₹10,68,700.
After realising that the documents and offer were allegedly fraudulent, Vishwakarma approached the police. Based on his complaint, a case was registered against the unidentified accused under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 66(D) of the Information Technology Act.
Police are investigating the phone numbers, bank transactions and digital trail linked to the alleged fraud.
