Nagpur: Panchpaoli Police have registered a case against seven people for allegedly demanding ₹12 lakh from Hope hospital owner to suppress the circumstances surrounding the death of a patient during treatment.
According to the police report, the complainant, Murli Balasundaram Kasiyamal (57), a resident of Sadar, runs Hope hospital on Kamptee Road in Nagpur. A patient, identified as Vitthal Tukaram Sathe, a resident of Wardha, had been admitted to the hospital for treatment between August 30 and September 5, 2026.
The patient allegedly died during treatment at the hospital on September 5.
Police said the accused — Sharad Sarode (45), Mulla Singh Gaur (40), Pratik Bahuguna (40), Pankaj Khichi (40), Mahesh Dhole (30), Shubham Sathe (25) and Manisha Papadkar (40) — allegedly formed an unlawful assembly and demanded ₹12 lakh from the complainant with the intention of suppressing the matter related to the patient’s death.
The accused allegedly threatened the complainant that if he failed to pay the money, they would get the hospital’s licence cancelled, demolish the hospital and implicate him in false cases.
Based on the complaint, Panchpaoli Police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with provisions of the Maharashtra Medical Services Persons and Medical Service Institutions (Prevention of Violence and Damage or Loss to Property) Act, and further investigation is underway.
