Woman and Husband Assaulted by Drunk Relatives Over Mobile Charging Dispute in Nagpur

Nagpur: A 50-year-old woman and her husband were allegedly assaulted by three relatives following a dispute over a mobile phone at Vaishali Nagar in Beltarodi, Nagpur, on Wednesday night.


The complainant, Mangala Arvind Mohod (50), a homemaker residing in the Vaishali Nagar area near Ganesh Temple, told police that the accused are her close relatives and neighbours.


According to the complaint, the power supply at the house of one of the accused had gone off, following which he had kept his mobile phone at Mangala’s house for charging. Later, Mangala removed the phone from charging and returned it to the accused’s house.


Police said the accused allegedly took offence to the incident. At around 9 pm on July 29, the three accused, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, began abusing Mangala and her husband, Arvind Mohod (52).


When Arvind came forward to support his wife, the accused allegedly assaulted both of them with fists and kicks. One of the accused allegedly picked up a wooden stick and struck Arvind on the head, causing an injury.


The injured couple received medical treatment at a government hospital.


Based on Mangala’s complaint, Beltarodi police registered a case under Sections 118(1), 115(2), 351(2) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
