Nagpur: Two brothers allegedly died by suicide after jumping in front of a moving train on the Nagpur–Chhindwara railway line near Malegaon Town railway station in Saoner taluka on Thursday morning.

The deceased have been identified as Niranjan Laxman Phirke (40) and his younger brother Yogesh Laxman Phirke (37), residents of Saoner and natives of Malegaon Town.

According to police, the incident occurred around 10.15 am on July 30 near Malegaon Town railway station. The brothers were rushed to the Government Hospital in Saoner, where doctors declared them dead. Their bodies were sent for post-mortem examination.

Debt, share trading angle under scanner

Preliminary information suggests that the Phirke family had originally hailed from Bhusawal district and later settled in Malegaon after Yogesh secured employment at a coal mine. The family was involved in farming, dairy farming and cattle rearing before starting Gahana Dairy near Jagnade Hall in Saoner.

Local sources claimed the brothers had recently started investing in the share market and online trading and allegedly incurred substantial debt while trying to make quick profits. Residents suspect financial stress may have contributed to the deaths.

However, police have not confirmed the debt or trading angle and said the exact circumstances would emerge only after a detailed investigation.

The tragedy has left the family devastated. Niranjan is survived by his wife, two young children and elderly parents, while Yogesh leaves behind his wife, a three-year-old son and elderly parents.
