Nagpur: Hingna police have registered a case against a 35-year-old man for allegedly cheating a homemaker of ₹32 lakh by promising to purchase agricultural land, plots and a house for her and her children.

The complainant, Shobha Kishor Jungare (38), a homemaker from Mandavghorad in Hingna taluka, alleged that the accused, Akash Prakash Turade (35), a resident of Dhangarpura, Hingna, gained her trust before allegedly siphoning off her money.

According to the complaint, Shobha had sold five acres of agricultural land at Argaon in Hingna taluka. The accused allegedly helped deposit the proceeds from the sale into her bank account. He subsequently allegedly lured her by promising to purchase agricultural land, plots and a house for her and her children.

Police said Turade allegedly took Shobha to Axis Bank’s Hingna branch on several occasions and got money transferred from her and her children’s bank accounts into his own account. He also allegedly made her withdraw cash, which he then took from her.

The complainant alleged that the accused thereby obtained around ₹40 lakh from her through various transactions.

She further alleged that Turade promised to purchase 2.5 acres of agricultural land at Ajna village in Samudrapur taluka, Wardha district, for her. However, he allegedly purchased the land in his own name for ₹7.10 lakh. When Shobha noticed his name on the land records (7/12 extract), she questioned him. He subsequently allegedly removed his name and transferred the land in her name.

Following a preliminary inquiry and the complainant’s report, Hingna police registered a case under Sections 316(2) and 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
