Nagpur: Prompt action by vigilant traffic police personnel saved the life of a 72-year-old two-wheeler rider who was dragged under a truck following a serious accident near the Kapsi Puliya No Entry Point in Nagpur on Tuesday, January 6.
The incident took place around 1:20 pm, when a truck bearing registration number MH40 CT 7574, heading from Bhandara towards Tarodi Puliya, hit a two-wheeler (MH49 BX 1813) about 50 metres from the Kapsi Puliya traffic check post. The motorcycle got trapped in the truck’s front wheel and was dragged forward, creating panic among commuters.
Traffic police personnel PSI Solve, PC Sumit, and PC Akash, who were on duty at the spot, immediately rushed to the accident site and managed to stop the truck. They swiftly rescued the rider from beneath the vehicle. Officials said the victim avoided fatal head injuries as he was wearing a helmet.
Displaying exceptional presence of mind, traffic police stopped a passing auto-rickshaw and personally shifted the injured man to Bhawani Hospital, where he was admitted for immediate treatment. The control room, senior officers, and the victim’s relatives were promptly informed.
During the rescue operation, the truck driver attempted to flee, but was chased and apprehended by alert traffic police personnel. Senior officials later visited the accident site and the hospital to review the situation and enquire about the victim’s condition.
The injured rider has been identified as Arjun Gangadas Nagarane (72), a resident of Sonba Nagar, Nagpur. He is currently undergoing treatment, and his condition is reported to be stable.
Relatives of the injured man have expressed gratitude to the Pardi Traffic Police for their swift, courageous, and life-saving response. Later, traffic police removed the damaged two-wheeler using a Hydra crane and handed over both vehicles along with the detained truck driver to Pardi Police Station for further investigation.
