Nagpur: In a major anti-narcotics operation, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) seized 5 kilograms of ganja worth approximately Rs 75,000 from a passenger at Nagpur Railway Station and arrested the accused. The seizure was made during routine patrolling, highlighting heightened vigilance against drug trafficking on railway premises.

According to RPF officials, the incident took place on January 6 on Platforms No. 2 and 3 after the arrival of Train No. 12994 Gandhidham Express. The RPF team noticed a suspicious passenger and stopped him for verification. During questioning, the suspect failed to give satisfactory answers about the contents of his bag, raising further suspicion.

A detailed search of the bag led to the recovery of five packets wrapped in khaki-coloured tape. The packets emitted a strong smell of narcotics and, upon inspection, were found to contain ganja weighing a total of 5 kg.

Senior railway security officials were immediately informed, and permission was obtained to initiate action under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. In the presence of a gazetted officer, government panch witnesses, a weighing officer, and a photographer/videographer, the RPF conducted a formal seizure panchnama at the spot, following due legal procedure.

On January 7, the arrested accused along with the seized ganja was handed over to the Railway Police. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, and further investigation is underway to trace the source and intended destination of the contraband.
