Nagpur: In a crackdown on the illegal sale of hazardous kite-flying material, Nandanvan Police have registered a case against a 21-year-old youth for possessing and selling banned nylon manja, seizing material worth ₹15,000.
The action was taken between 4.55 pm and 5.35 pm on January 8, 2026, while police were conducting routine patrolling within the Nandanvan police station jurisdiction. Acting on reliable information, police learned that a person was selling government-banned nylon manja in an open ground behind Farukh Garage, near Danish Lawn.
Following the tip-off, police conducted a raid in the presence of panch witnesses and detained a suspect matching the description. Upon inquiry, the accused identified himself as Sheikh Irfan Sheikh Gaffar (21), a resident of Hasanbagh Main Road, near DV Public School, Nandanvan, Nagpur.
During the search, police found 15 spools of nylon manja bearing labels of Monofil Gold Company inside a yellow sack. The seized material, valued at ₹15,000, is prohibited due to its severe threat to human life, birds, and the environment.
Based on the findings, a case was registered against the accused under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with Sections 5 and 15 of the Environment Protection Act, 1986, at Nandanvan police station.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 4) Rashmita Rao and Assistant Commissioner of Police (Sakkardara Division) Pradeep Shirsat, and executed by Police Inspector Vinayak Koli, Police Sub-Inspector Pravin Raut, Head Constable Dinesh Jugnake, Constable Pravin Marape, Rahul Khadatkar, and Someshwar Ghugal.
