Nagpur: In a major breakthrough, the Nagpur Crime Branch’s Unit No. 2 and Gittikhadan Police jointly detained three accused and four juveniles in conflict with the law in connection with the murder of a 28-year-old man near Futala Lake.

According to police, the incident took place between 6.30 pm and 7 pm on June 29 when complainant Salman Ishaq Sheikh (35), a resident of Gorewada, along with his friends Mayur Jadhav (34), Shashank Taywade (32), and Asad alias Aman Khan (28), was eating roasted corn at a roadside stall on the road connecting Futala Lake and the Air Force area.

During this time, accused Yogendra alias Lala Shivakant Pandey (20), a resident of Sanjay Nagar, allegedly arrived at the spot and stared angrily at the group. An argument broke out after Mayur Jadhav asked him, “What are you looking at?” The exchange soon escalated into a scuffle.

Police said Yogendra then called his associates, following which Deepak alias Prince Gupta, Jitendra alias Jungli Shivakant Pandey, and four juveniles arrived on motorcycles. Investigators alleged that Jitendra alias Jungli handed a knife to Yogendra and told him to attack the group.

Yogendra allegedly stabbed Asad Khan and Mayur Jadhav, causing both to collapse. The other accused reportedly assaulted Salman Sheikh and Shashank Taywade and also attempted to stab the complainant. However, a nearby Chinese food stall owner intervened and prevented the attack.

The injured men were rushed to Dande Hospital, where doctors declared Asad Khan dead, while Mayur Jadhav remains under treatment.

Based on the complaint, Gittikhadan Police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) pertaining to murder, attempt to murder, rioting, unlawful assembly, and criminal conspiracy.

During the parallel investigation, Crime Branch Unit No. 2 and Gittikhadan Police conducted technical surveillance and acted on confidential information to trace the accused. They detained Jitendra alias Jungli Pandey (25), Deepak alias Prince Gupta (19), Yogendra alias Lala Pandey (20), and four juveniles.

During questioning, the accused allegedly confessed to committing the crime in conspiracy with the juveniles. The four juveniles have been sent to a juvenile correction home, and further investigation is underway.
