Nagpur: Demonstrating its commitment to passenger safety and child welfare, the Railway Protection Force (RPF), Nagpur, rescued a minor girl found alone under suspicious circumstances at Nagpur Railway Station and safely reunited her with her family after completing all legal procedures.
According to officials, the incident took place on the night of June 28 at around 9 pm when Head Constable Narendra Chauhan, while on duty, noticed a minor girl sitting alone near the Itarsi end of Platform No. 8 at Nagpur Railway Station. During preliminary questioning, the girl was unable to provide satisfactory information regarding her presence at the station.
Considering her safety, RPF personnel brought her to the RPF Police Station at Nagpur for further assistance.
At the police station, Assistant Sub-Inspector B.D. Ahirwar, in the presence of Woman Constable Shireen Hussain and Childline representative Vicky Dahare, conducted a counselling session and inquiry. It was then learned that the girl had left home after a family dispute and had reached the railway station with the intention of travelling to Mumbai.
The RPF immediately contacted her family, and her guardian soon arrived at the police station. After verifying the guardian’s identity and relationship with the child, and confirming the girl’s willingness to return home, the matter was reported to the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Nagpur.
Following the directions of the CWC and completion of all necessary legal formalities, the minor girl was safely handed over to her guardian.
The Railway Administration has appealed to passengers to immediately alert the RPF or call the Railway Helpline if they notice any child or vulnerable person in distress or without supervision at railway premises.
