Sonegaon Police Arrest Externed Man with Sword in Nagpur

Nagpur: The Sonegaon Police arrested a 26-year-old man, already externed from the city, after he was found brandishing a sword near Hanuman Mandir, Somalwada, on Tuesday morning.


Around 7:50 am on August 12, a patrolling team received a tip-off about a man creating a ruckus with a sword in Rahul Nagar slum, Somalwada. Acting on the information, officers rushed to the spot and found a person matching the description. On spotting the police, the suspect tried to flee but was apprehended and disarmed.


He was identified as Vijay Kanhaiyya Belvanshi, a resident of Rahul Nagar slum. Police seized a 3-ft iron sword worth around ₹400 from his possession. A background check revealed that the accused had been externed from Nagpur city and rural areas for two years under an order issued by DCP Zone-1 on November 12, 2024.


Since Belvanshi was found in the prohibited area without permission and allegedly intended to commit an offence, Sonegaon Police booked him under Sections 4 and 25 of the Arms Act and Sections 142 and 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act. Further investigation is underway.
