Nagpur: The long-awaited RTO flyover, connecting Amravati Highway to the National Highway near Nagpur University, is set to open for traffic on August 31. The Public Works Department (PWD) has confirmed the date after completing the final stages of construction. However, the underpass below the flyover will remain closed for a few more weeks as work continues.

The ₹384-crore infrastructure project is designed to ease chronic traffic congestion between the RTO and University area, particularly during peak hours. Once operational, the flyover will provide seamless connectivity from Amravati Road to the University area and onwards towards the RTO, reducing travel time for thousands of commuters.

Delays Pushed Back Deadline

Originally proposed in 2021 and approved the same year, the project was expected to be completed in 2023. However, approval procedures, land acquisition issues, and the inclusion of a steel bridge section over a railway crossing led to significant delays. Final clearance was granted after intervention by then Union Minister Nitin Gadkari. Construction began in 2022.

Finishing Touches Underway

PWD officials said that the structural work is complete and final tasks, including lane marking, installation of street lights, and safety railing, are being carried out. The flyover will be fully operational for vehicles by August 31.

Underpass Completion in Later Phase

The road beneath the flyover will not open immediately, as the approach road for the underpass and associated drainage work are still in progress. This section will be completed in a subsequent phase.
