Nagpur: With Diwali festivities approaching, the Nagpur City Police have issued a stern warning against illegal gambling and unauthorized parties. The department has urged citizens and event organizers to obtain prior permission for hosting Diwali celebrations, emphasizing that any illegal activity—especially gambling or serving alcohol to minors—will invite strict legal action.
According to senior police sources, a special squad has been formed to maintain law and order during the festive period. This dedicated team will monitor hotels, farmhouses, private venues, and banquet halls across the city to prevent illicit gambling, underage drinking, and other unlawful activities. The Crime Branch will work in coordination with local police stations to ensure continuous surveillance during the festive nights.
Officials said that police patrols and surprise inspections will be intensified at potential hotspots, including resorts on city outskirts and party venues known for late-night gatherings. Cyber teams will also keep tabs on social media invitations and private group chats promoting illegal card games or unlicensed liquor parties.
“Diwali is a festival of joy and togetherness, but any attempt to misuse the occasion for unlawful activities will not be tolerated,” said a senior police officer. He further urged citizens to celebrate responsibly and to report any suspicious gatherings or gambling dens to the police control room.
In recent years, the city police have cracked down on several gambling rackets during festive seasons, seizing lakhs in cash and booking dozens of offenders. This year, too, authorities have made it clear that maintaining peace, safety, and public order remains their top priority during the festival of lights.
