Nagpur: MIDC Police have busted an inter-state burglary gang from Uttar Pradesh that would travel to the city, commit housebreakings, and flee overnight in a car. The gang, which had been giving city police a tough time over the past few weeks, was finally tracked down through CCTV footage.

The arrested accused have been identified as Shahnawaz alias Shanu Ahmad Ali (35)Dilshad Ahmad Ansari (50), and Raju alias Jhenduu Hitler Verma (42) — all residents of Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh. Police have recovered stolen valuables worth ₹5.80 lakh, including gold and silver ornaments and four vehicles.

According to reports, the gang had struck on August 25 at the residence of Pravin Yashwantrao Shendere (47) in U-Reach Apartment, Takli Sim, under MIDC Police Station limits. The accused broke open the locks and decamped with ₹25,000 cash and ornaments worth ₹3.15 lakh. After committing the crime, they immediately fled to Uttar Pradesh in a car (registration number UP-20 BW-3902), leaving no trace behind.

Under the guidance of DCP S Rushikesh Reddy and PI Gokul Mahajan, a police team traced their movement using CCTV footage and later travelled to Uttar Pradesh. The team laid a trap near the residence of Shahnawaz Ali and arrested him after a brief chase. Based on his confession, his two accomplices were also detained.

Preliminary probe suggests the gang was involved in several burglaries across other states as well. Further investigation is underway.
